No. 8 Ole Miss looks to get up off the mat and dust itself off after suffering the the first loss of the season to Georgia last weekend. Next up is a second-straight road game in the Southeastern Conference.

Next up is No. 13 Oklahoma in what is being viewed as a potential College Football Playoffs eliminator, or play-in, game. The Rebels are sitting at 6-1 overall after the setback between the hedges and the Sooners are their final ranked opponent in the final five games of the regular season. Oklahoma (6-1) has other opportunities after this weekend (at No. 17 Tennessee, at No. 4 Alabama and No. 15 Missouri) but a loss on Saturday would mean two SEC losses and those upcoming three games could also serve as potential losses.

It feels as if the defeat would be worse for the Sooners as Ole Miss has a much easier final four-game stretch with South Carolina, Florida, The Citadel and Mississippi State remaining. The chance to finish 10-2 is much greater than that of Oklahoma’s chances, but then the résumé would not bee very solid as Tulane would most likely be the best win for the Rebels.

Basically if you are Ole Miss, win on Saturday and keep it out of the hands of the 12-member CFP selection committee that drops its first Top 25 rankings of the season on November 4

The Rebels are currently a 5.5-point road underdog to Oklahoma on BetMGM.
