POLL POSITION: Ole Miss drops slightly but remains inside Top 10

Ole Miss avoided a scare and major pothole on its road for a College Football Playoff berth with its three-point win over Washington State on Saturday.
The win was not pretty but it did keep the Rebels undefeated, moving them to 6-0 at the season’s halfway point. A win like that was tough, when it comes to the Top 25 rankings, as bigger wins from teams around them caused some reshuffling.
Sunday’s latest polls saw Ole Miss drop a spot to No. 5 in the Associated Press poll and one spot to No. 5 in the Coaches Poll.
“We’re ranked fourth, but we played like the 84th-ranked team in the country throughout that game,” Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said after Saturday’s game. “So quit reading the rat poison and make plays. Don’t make a penalty by hitting the quarterback in the head when we were about to get off the field and finish drives.
The Rebels are no longer the highest-ranked Southeastern Conference team, ending the run at two weeks. Texas A&M now claims that spot at X in the AP Poll after its 34-17 win over Florida.

Another major mover was Indiana. The Hoosiers moved up four spots to No. 3 after its 30-20 win over then-No. 3 Oregon.
Despite the musical chairs the Rebels are still one of 10 SEC teams in the AP Top 25 and among the five teams in the Top 10.
Next up is a Top-10 showdown in Athens when Ole Miss travels to No. 9 Georgia on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. CT kick on ABC. The Bulldogs escaped Auburn with a 20-10 win that did not come without some controversy. The Rebels open as a 6.5-point underdog on BetMGM.
ESPN announced on Sunday that College GameDay will air from Athens next weekend, too.
