POLL POSITION: Ole Miss hangs just inside Top 25 after dropping series at Oklahoma

Ole Miss suffered its fourth Southeastern Conference series loss this past weekend, dropping the first two games against Oklahoma but managed to avoid a sweep taking the series finale on Sunday.
Salvaging that game might have helped the Rebels (33-15, 13-11 SEC) stay inside the Top 25 in Monday’s latest polls, or when held against the rest of the teams in the country they are still viewed as a top team.
Either way Ole Miss did not take too bad of a hit when the rankings were released, which is a bit of positive news to roll into Sunday’s withe a week off before heading to Starkville and another all-important SEC series with Mississippi State.

After not moving up in D1Baseball’s poll last week coming off a 3-1 week and a series win over Vanderbilt the Rebels only dropped a spot to No. 24 in this week’s poll. They stayed above newly ranked Southern California while Kansas slipped outside of the Top 25.
In Baseball America’s poll Ole Miss dropped five spots to No. 18.
With the dust settled on the weekend action the Rebels sit at 17 in the latest RPI rankings, putting them just on the outside of having good metrics for hosting. Of course the SEC record has to improve and with only six games remaining between the Bulldogs (29-19, 10-14) and No. 8 Auburn (33-15, 13-11) a pair of series wins is the minimum if Ole Miss wants to keep the hope of having postseason baseball back in Oxford.
