Last week Ole Miss earned a Top 15 ranking in the preseason Coaches Poll, the first of the 2025 college football season.

This week the Rebels were unable to keep the trend going with another Top 15 ranking.

Heading into a year with a lot of newness and unknowns Ole Miss is ranked No. 21 in the first AP Poll of the season. They are one of 10 SEC teams in the Top 25.

Texas earns its first No. 1 ranking in the preseason AP Poll. Georgia lands at No. 5 with Alabama (No. 8) and LSU (No. 9) rounding out the SEC teams inside the Top 10.

These rankings might be a tad higher than expected for the Rebels with a lot of non-official prognostications putting them closer to 20 or lower to start the season. Clearly the coaches and AP voters feel differently about Ole Miss’ potential prospects for 2025.

“I think guys are doing really well. Excited about this team,” Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said last week. “There’s a lot of new pieces, a lot of different things to look at, schemes with different players. So, obviously we lost a lot of players, but at the same time we added a lot.”

Ole Miss opens the season on August 30 against Georgia State at 6:45 p.m. CT. The game will air on SEC Network.
