Postseason baseball will commence at Oxford-University Stadium on Friday, welcoming back the sights and sounds of NCAA Tournament returning to Swayze Field for the first time since 2021.

No. 10 National Seed Ole Miss will take on 4 Seed Murray State while 2 Seed Georgia Tech will play 3 Seed Western Kentucky on the opening day of the Oxford Regional.

The Rebels will stay in the nightcap slot, playing at 7 p.m. CT while the Yellow Jackets and Hilltopers will get things started at 3 p.m. CT.

More and more National Seeds, or host, teams have been flipping the schedule and playing the first game of the day to get more rest before presumably playing in winner’s bracket game on Saturday. Ole Miss is one team this year that is sticking with the traditional Regional schedule.

Rebels head coach Mike Bianco’s rationale is looking out for the fans and views it as a reward for them.

“I don’t know where all of a sudden that happened, but it’s been a while now,” Bianco said. “I’ve always felt that that’s a disappointing thing for your fans. To play (the early game). It’s usually really hot here, like a lot of our counterparts. I don’t if I’d necessarily want to be playing at one or two o’clock if I don’t have to.

“We’re used to playing on Friday night. Our fans are used to being here on Friday night. That’s kind of the reward. So I think when you do that, I get it that if you lose you got to turn around and play again, but you’re supposed to win. I think the pluses outweigh the minuses. We’ve always thought it’s the right thing to do for our team and for the fans and to have that atmosphere of Friday night at Swayze Field.”
