The Drive Home: After Georgia, is Ole Miss still a playoff team?

The Ole Miss Spirit’s Ben Garrett was joined LIVE by Brad Logan and Sudu Upadhyay from Athens and following No. 5-ranked Ole Miss’ 43-35 loss at No. 9 Georgia on Saturday.
Trinidad Chambliss and the Ole Miss offense pulled off a first against a Kirby Smart defense. However, Pete Golding’s Rebel defense was an absolute disaster as Ole Miss fell to 6-1 (3-1 SEC) on the season with a trip to Oklahoma up next.
“It’s just really disappointing,” sixth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said. “You could feel good that we’ve come a long ways from where we were two years ago in this room. But you’ve got a chance, man.
“Here comes another really hard place to play [Oklahoma] agains the top defense in the country. That’s going to be a really big test. We’ve got a lot of things to fix. Thirty-four first downs [for Georgia] is really concerning.”

Are the Rebels still a College Football Playoff contender? What about Kiffin and an already-active coaching carousel? Billy Napier and Florida did defeat Mississippi State, after all. Could LSU come open after Brian Kelly and the Tigers lost at Vanderbilt?

“Just disappointing,” Kiffin said. “It’s disappointing to have a shot like this — to be up two scores in the fourth quarter at Georgia [with a chance to] to undefeated, 7-0. That’s kind of a once-in-a-lifetime moment.”
