The latest Ole Miss bowl projections after Lane Kiffin's departure
Ole Miss secured its first 11-win regular season in program history after winning its third straight Egg Bowl last Friday. But then the weekend turned into more Lane Kiffin drama, resulting in him head to LSU after six years in Oxford.
Kiffin walked away from a team that is considered a College Football Playoff lock finishing the season at 11-1 and going 7-1 in Southeastern Conference play for the first time in 22 years.
But now the question everyone wants to know is will the CFP selection committee ding Ole Miss for not having its head coach that guided it to those 11 wins on the sideline the rest of the way. Selection committee chairman, and Arkansas athletic director, Hunter Yurachek provided an answer during last week’s CFP Top 25 rankings show claiming there is not a data point to go off of that would lead the committee to push the Rebels down the rankings or out of the CFP altogether.

When the penultimate rankings are revealed on Tuesday at 6 p.m CT (ESPN) it will give a baseline of where the committee views the Rebels coach situation. Stability should help as defensive coordinator Pete Golding was promoted to head coach during Sunday’s team meeting.
One potential issue is the lack of a play caller for the Rebels offense. Coordinator Charlie Weis, Jr. got on the plane with Kiffin bound for Baton Rouge on Sunday. He was removed from the coaches roster on the Ole Miss website hours later, though The Ole Miss Spirit’s Chuck Rounsaville reported there is a potential for Weis to return to either finish out the CFP run or stay permanently.
