ToC Short Sessions: Barstool’s Ben Mintz talks Lane Kiffin as a candidate at Bama

Ben Mintz of Barstool Sports drops by this edition of Talk of Champions: Short Sessions to consider Lane Kiffin’s candidacy at Alabama following Nick Saban’s retirement.
Saban made the surprising announcement on Wednesday and following 17 seasons and six national championships with the Crimson Tide. Kiffin, who’s entering his fifth Ole Miss season, quickly emerged as a rumored candidate.
The rumblings have only grown louder after Dan Lanning announced he wasn’t leaving Oregon. Reports surfaced almost immediately Lanning was the Tide’s No. 1 target.
Regardless, former Tide quarterback Greg McElroy gave Kiffin a zero-percent chance of getting the nod, even if it’s little solace to Mintz. His phone’s been ringing off the hook with rumors and scoop.

Naturally, then, his panic level is pretty high.
“I’m still concerned,” Mintz said. “The stuff with Lane and ‘Bama, we all know he was there from 2014-16, three years as offensive coordinator. It ended very poorly. He didn’t leave Alabama in good standing with people is all I really know.
“The long and short of it is, I started the day on a 1-10 panic meter at six because I thought Lanning was going to be there. When I heard Lanning was staying at Oregon, I went up to like an 8.5. Then I started hearing all the (Washington’s Kalen) DeBoer stuff and went down to seven. Now I’m hearing he’s out, so I’m kind of at an eight, which is pretty high. But the Ole Miss side doesn’t really feel like Lane’s being considered.”
