UCF transfer receiver Jaylon Robinson to visit Ole Miss this weekend

Ole Miss and head coach Lane Kiffin are still expecting some good news later this summer for the receiver position when former LSU wideout and Jackson, Miss., prospect Deion Smith clears his NCAA academic hurdles and enrolls at the University of Mississippi.

But they could be adding to the receiver exclamation point with another talented pass-catcher coming to town this weekend as sources tell OMSpirit former UCF receiver Jaylon Robinson is taking an official visit to check out the 2022 Grove Bowl.

Robinson, who originally signed with Oklahoma in 2018, announced his intentions on Wednesday to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal and explore his options for his remaining two years of eligibility.

The 5-foot-9, 180 pound receiver from Fort Worth, Tex., had a huge season in 2020 after sitting out a year due to NCAA transfer rules, hauling in 55 receptions for 979 yards, six touchdowns and earning First Team AAC honors. Last season’s production was down due to a knee injury. He appeared in just seven games, making 18 receptions for 322 yards and two touchdowns.

UCF head coach Gus Malzahn recently spoke with The Daytona Beach News-Journal about Robinson’s health and how he was progressing this spring.

“He looked 100% to me,” Malzahn said. “He took care of his body, and our medical team did a really good job. At first this spring, he was feeling himself through. All of the sudden, he got confidence.”

Robinson was the No. 449 recruit in the country and No. 66 in Texas, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He signed with the Sooners over notable offers from Georgia, Baylor, Texas Tech, Houston and SMU. During his one year in Norman, Robinson made just three catches for 28 yards.
