WATCH: Harrison Wallace III is settling into the added role of Ole Miss punt returner

Maybe one thing that was revealed which was not expected to be was the fact Ole Miss might found a punt returner it can be confident in with Harrison ‘Tre’ Wallace III.
In Saturday’s win over Georgia State Wallace returned four punts for 50 yards and an average of 12.5 yards per return.
When the recruiting began in the transfer portal, being part of the special teams unit was not discussed with the former Penn State wide receiver. In fact, Wallace has never returned a punt until he arrived in Oxford.
“I wouldn’t say it was something we really talked about in the transfer portal window,” Wallace said after Tuesday’s practice. “It’s just like a role that I stepped into once I got here just practicing and being with the guys. I feel pretty comfortable out there. Playing baseball over the years, it’s kind of like playing center field.”

Wallace was in a special teams meeting and saw his name on the depth chart one day, which is how he learned he was taking on a new role along with being a top target on offense.
Along with giving a confidence boost to the punt return game, Wallace showed what head coach Lane Kiffin saw in him when landing him out of the portal. He led Ole Miss with five catches for 130 yards, a career best, and a touchdown.
“I felt like I played really good. Left some plays out there on the field but just wanted to do as much as I could to help my team get the (win),” Wallace said. “As a veteran player, the years that I’ve played, the things that I’ve done over time helped me learn the playbook. I feel like it was a pretty smooth transition.”
