Game week is here for No. 21 Ole Miss as it hosts Georgia State this weekend to kick off the 2025 season.

Sixth-year head coach Lane Kiffin made his usual Monday appearance at the podium for his weekly preview press conference and answering questions from the local Ole Miss media.

The Rebels wrapped up Fall camp this past Saturday with a mock game to get the players adjusted to how game day routines will work, at least for home games inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Now Ole Miss turns it attention to season mode and its first opponent in the Panthers.

“(Georgia State head coach Dell McGee) has done a really good job building this team and look no further than with only a few months to prepare, went and beat Vanderbilt last year,” Kiffin said. “Says a lot about their staff. Hue Jackson is offensive coordinator so these guys are gonna have really good schematical stuff and really good players. We’re going to need to perform really well. That’s why I’m saying to the fans, too. We all need to perform well. Let’s have an exciting Saturday night.”

There will be some familiarity on the opposite sideline for Ole Miss in the form of former player and staff member Enrique Davis. Davis played for the Rebels under Houston Nutt from 2008 to 2011 before he returned to the program to serve as an analyst until Georgia State hired him as their running backs coach in January.

“I don’t really work like that,” Kiffin said when asked if he’s spoken to Davis leading up to Saturday’s game. “He did a great job here. He’s a really good running back coach and really successful. He’s going to be really successful there and I’m sure other places after that. He put together a really good room, too. Really deep and really good players.”
