Ole Miss football on Wednesday held its first practice of its August-long preseason camp.

The Rebels were 8-5 last season and reached the postseason for the third straight year under head coach Lane Kiffin. Ole Miss returns seven starters on offense. However, the Rebels bring back just three on a completely overhauled defense under first-year coordinator Pete Golding, formerly of Alabama.

Ole Miss this offseason loaded up on transfers (28) and true freshmen (28). Twenty of the transfers enrolled in January and participated in spring practices. Thirteen of those 20 came from Division-I schools. On3 graded the Rebels with the No. 6 transfer class in the country, and it’s only getting stronger.

Sure to be the most intriguing and talked-about storyline this month is the three-man quarterback battle.

Jaxson Dart, now a junior, returns for his second Ole Miss season. He started 12 of 13 games a year ago and completed 62 percent of his passes for 2,974 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also ran for 614 yards on 128 carries.

Ole Miss brought in transfers Spencer Sanders (Oklahoma State) and Walker Howard (LSU). The Rebels reeled in consensus four-star recruit Austin Simmons, too. Simmons reclassified from 2025 to 2023 and is enrolled and practicing.

The Rebels will lean again on record-setting second-year running back Quinshon Judkins. Judkins broke multiple rushing records as a true freshman last season. He was recently named to the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List.

Judkin is a preseason All-American. He led the SEC and was Top 10 nationally in rushing yards (1,567), rushing touchdowns (16) and total touchdowns (17) in 2022.
