Ole Miss closed the book on the Jaxson Dart era in January and enters its Austin Simmons era this weekend.
“I’d definitely say the biggest thing is learning to accept everything that comes with the role,” Simmons said on Monday. “A lot of adversity. A lot of media talking about me, especially a lot of outside noise comes with being in this type of position. Really just learning how to handle it over time. Spring football was the best time for me. Just stepping up into a new position. Not being a backup but molding into being the guy.”
The offseason has been spent by analyzing if Simmons is the guy to lead Ole Miss in its bid to earn its first College Football Playoffs berth after sitting behind Dart for two years. This Saturday is the first chance for Simmons to show he can as well as a tune up against a different defense other than the Rebels before next Saturday’s trip to Kentucky.
