Suntarine Perkins was two sacks away from setting the single-season program record in 2024. This season he intends on the being the Ole Miss sack leader when it is all said and done.

The third-year linebacker is first and foremost focused on making sure the Ole Miss defense, as a whole, remains as potent and productive as it was a year ago when it was among the best on the country. But Perkins is also keeping his eyes on a personal prize.

Sam Williams currently holds the program record with 12.5 sacks during the 2021 season. Last season Perkins shared the sack lead with Princely Umanmielen at 10.5 each.

This Fall Perkins is going for the Ole Miss sack crown.

“Yes sir. Definitely,” Perkins said when asked following Tuesday’s practice if that’s in the back of his mind.

This is a more than attainable goal for Perkins this season as he will once again be lurking along the Ole Miss defensive line. The hybrid player will be floating between the first and second levels of the defense, as he is still listed as a linebacker on the roster.

But with returning starter T.J. Dottery and transfer Tahj Chambers looking good at linebacker Perkins is going to be utilized the best way defensive coordinator Pete Golding sees fit, which is only positives for the Rebels.

“I just learned from those guys last year. JJ (Pegues) and (Jared Ivey) and them,” Perkins said. “Learned to just be here for my team.”
