Oregon Signing Class Review: Linebacker

I’m not sure there was a more important position for Oregon to sign in 2024 than linebacker. It was really important for the Ducks to secure some prep talent for the future of the position. So far the linebacker position has been a bit of a crap shoot in the transfer portal unlike quarterback and wide receiver.
The Ducks have an interesting situation at this position group. Currently Oregon hasn’t pursued any linebackers in the transfer portal. And the reasons for that are ones I’ve talked about already. Oregon is hoping to get Jeff Bassa and Jestin Jacobs back for another year. There is no need to bring in a transfer player if you can get your starters back.
Should they return, I don’t see Oregon entering the portal for linebackers. But that made these prep signings just as critical.
The Ducks went out and signed one of its best linebacker classes ever. Taking three of the top four linebackers out West in the cycle only seeing Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa sign with Notre Dame. Of course Oregon was heavy in the pursuit of Georgia signee Justin Williams but didn’t get left empty-handed in the process. Signing Williams would have just been an embarrassment of riches.

The trio of Dylan Williams, Kamar Mothudi and Brayden Platt will have a full season to grow and develop, becoming the next wave of backers for the Ducks. All three will also have a chance to see snaps this season late in games or whenever the depth is needed.
The position will need to once again be a priority for Oregon in the 2025 cycle. But if handled the proper way Oregon could be looking at a very solid and young two-deep on the roster.
With Oregon cleaning up out West and finding three terrific backers to play behind (expected) returning starters, it’s really an ideal set up. Because of the management of this position group I am giving Oregon a B+. I was really close to an A- which could be justified, signing Justin Williams or perhaps one more backer would have easily been an A. But a B+ is nothing to complain about and I think this group is one more class away from becoming a legit unit.
