ScoopDuck Roundtable: Score Predictions vs Cal

It’s Wednesday Duck fans which means we are ready to predict this weekends score. It’s Oregon hosting Cal in Eugene in what is expected to be a rainy day.
You know the drill by now. We predict the score of this weekends games. Last I checked, Jarrid was the best predictor in terms of difference. It’s time I revisit those predictions for an update this week.
Now on to the scores.
Jarrid Denney: Oregon 52, Cal 17
Good teams win — great teams cover, as they say. I don’t see the Ducks suffering any sort of letdown at this point. The players are really dialed in the UO coaching staff will do a good job of negating the things that Cal does well.
I think the Golden Bears are a bit better than their record would indicate, but Oregon is playing like one of the best teams in the country at the moment.
Corpatty: Oregon 45, Cal 20
This game has a lot of similarities to the Washington St game. Coming off an emotional road game against a top conference opponent and looking ahead to another big game the following week. And Cal has a potent offense led by Jadyn Ott and Fernando Mendoza. I expect Oregon to come out a little sluggish in this one, as Wilcox always has Cal up to play Oregon. But the Duck offense will wake up and take control of this game. Oregon ultimately ends up winning comfortably after a slow start.

Oregon runs away early with this one and never looks back.
Joel Gunderson: Oregon 42, Cal 24
As I mentioned in my surprise storyline, I expect a sluggish start from the Ducks, coming off the victory in Utah. While it will only last a short time, it will make the final score look less than ideal. And if Taki Tiamani and Steven Jones are out (they missed practice Tuesday), Oregon might be operating with a partial deck.
This won’t be Oregon-Cal 2021 (don’t remind me, please), but it won’t be Oregon-Cal 2013, either. Expect a solid win in preparation for a still-very-dangerous USC team, but not one that will fill the year-end highlight reel.
Jhop: Oregon 71, Cal 21
I know I already said this, but I’ve got Oregon going big. Here’s why. Lanning isn’t a jerk that likes to run up the score on teams. But at this point two things matter for the Ducks. Bo Nix padding some stats for his Heisman campaign. Style points in Oregon’s win as they work towards a college football playoff.
Both of these things matter and Oregon will have to pay attention to both as the season continues. Ducks win big this weekend and accomplish both on the way.
