One of Penn State’s most important 2027 prospects, offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller, announced his top eight schools on Wednesday. As expected, the Coatesville, Pa., native included the Nittany Lions among that list. Others that made the cut include Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Maryland, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Ranked No. 28 nationally in the On300, Hiller is also the second-ranked interior offensive lineman in the class and No. 3 overall in Pennsylvania. If he stays among the top-32 players for his class, he would eventually end up a five-star prospect by the time he signs.

Listed at 6-foot-5, 295 pounds, Hiller only helped his stock a few weeks ago when he was named the MVP of the Big Man Challenge at the Future 50 camp in Florida. He was also named a top performer by Rivals scout Cody Bellaire.

“Maxwell Hiller proved that he is one of the most dominant interior offensive linemen in the country with his showing out here on Saturday,” Bellaie wrote. “The raw power and anchor ability of Hiller was on full display during both 1-on-1 sessions. His ability to sit down pass rushers and reset his feet in order to gain leverage was phenomenal. He plays with such a strong base and does an excellent job of shooting his hands to initiate contact. Hiller ended up winning the Big Man Challenge as the top lineman during the afternoon session and proved he’s one of the top prospects along the line of scrimmage in the 2027 cycle.”

That should be no surprise to Penn State fans, as offensive line coach Phil Trautwein extended an offer before Hiller in the spring leading up to his freshman year. The Nittany Lions were also the first school to offer.

Now, Hiller has totaled more than 30 offers. His 10 visits to Penn State are by far the most he’s taken to any school. However, he’s also checked out Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma and South Carolina.

“As a high school coach, he’s a once-in-a-lifetime kind of player. I knew that from day one,” said Coatesville head coach Matt Ortega.

Although it’s still early for the 2027 class, Pennsylvania looks to be very strong. Penn State already holds commitments from the top-ranked player in the state, running back Kemon Spell, as well as the second-ranked player, wide receiver Khalil Taylor.
