Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer shuts down Penn State job talk: ‘There’s never been any interest either way’

Penn State fans hoping athletic director Pat Kraft could pull a rabbit out of his hat and lure Kalen DeBoer away from Alabama will not like this update. The Crimson Tide head coach, who will look to lead his team to a second win this season over Georgia, this time in Saturday’s SEC title game, shut down any conversation about him and the Lions’ open job on Thursday afternoon.

“We’re extremely happy at Alabama,” DeBoer said, per BamaOnline. “… We’re extremely happy here. Love the challenge, love the grind, love this place. And there’s never been any link. There’s never been any conversation. There’s never been any interest either way.

“And so, I’m glad we can put that to bed right now.”

DeBoer is in his second season at Alabama. He was previously extremely successful at Washington before being the pick to replace the legendary Nick Saban. Pulling DeBoer away from Tuscaloosa for State College was always a long shot, at best. But, before the head coach officially shut things down, hope existed in some portion of the fan base that the Tide might get blown out by the Bulldogs, miss the Playoffs, and lead to DeBoer coming to Penn State.

Those hopes are now extinguished. The Penn State search, which is in day No. 53, continues.
