Bo Bassett makes his new college choice; will he wrestle at Penn State?

Star Class of 2026 recruit Bo Bassett backed away from his pledge to Iowa on June 22 after being committed to the Hawkeyes for months. At the time, it was thought that he would decide next between the likes of Penn State, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, and Nebraska, among others. Now, his second decision is in.
Bassett, and also his brother, top Class of 2027 recruit, Melvin, will both wrestle next at Virginia Tech. They put the news on social media on Sat., Oct. 4. It comes after both took an official visit to Blacksburg last weekend. A Johnstown, Pa., native, Bo is entering his senior season at Bishop McCort. He is already a multi-time World medalist and champ, and a two-time Pennsylvania state champion. Ranked as the No. 2 recruit in the country by MatScouts, Bassett projects to wrestle at 149 pounds in college.
Here’s what he said about his second commitment:
“Officially a Hokie. Time to Work.🦃 I am Committing to Virginia Tech!!! The next chapter begins in Hokie Nation!! I can’t wait to chase down National, World, and Olympic Titles in Blacksburg.”
And, if you missed it, here’s what he wrote when decommitting from Iowa:
“After a lot of prayer and talking with my family, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Iowa,” Bassett wrote on social media. “This wasn’t easy. But I believe it’s not the right fit for me as a wrestler, a person, or for my faith journey. I’m grateful for the opportunity, and I’ll never speak a bad word about their program. This is about finding the place God wants me to be. This is a huge decision in my life and it has to be the right one.”

A look at the Penn State Class of 2026
With Bassett’s decision now in, Penn State still has two commitments in the Class of 2026. One of Bassett’s teammates, Sam Herring, will be a Nittany Lion. Reigning New Jersey 150-pound champ Jayden James joined him in March after flipping his commitment from Virginia Tech.
As for the rankings, Bassett is No. 2 on MatScout’s Senior Big Board. James is No. 3. And, Herring is No. 24. All three will compete one final time for their respective high schools this winter before moving on to the next level.
