Penn State Wrestling Dominated Michigan Michigan State Previewing Maryland Dual

Penn State news, notes, and updates for Jan. 26 include new wrestling rankings, football coaches on the road, and more.

It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. Numerous Nittany Lions moved in the latest InterMat rankings ahead of Sunday’s dual meet at Maryland. It starts at Noon ET. Big Ten Network will televise it. No Penn State wrestler moved as much as Braeden Davis did. The 125-pound first-year starter moved from No. 14 to No. 4 after beating former top-five and now No. 14 senior Micahel DeAustino of Michigan last weekend. The jump surely did not surprise Davis’ teammates.

“That kid works hard in the room,” Lions junior David Evans told the Penn State Sports Network. “We know what he’s capable of. And like everybody has been wondering if he’s that guy, and I mean, I think he went out there and showed it [last Friday] night. DeAustino is no joke. But I mean, Braeden is just tough. Wrestles through every position.”

Here are the latest InterMat rankings. The number in parathesis indicates last week’s ranking.

125 pounds: Braden Davis, 4 (14)

133 pounds: Aaron Nagao, 5 (4)

141 pounds: Beau Bartlett, 2 (2)

149 pounds: Tyler Kasak, 12 (NR)

157 pounds: Levi Haines, 1 (1)

165 pounds: Mitchell Mesenbrink, 7 (9)

174 pounds: Carter Starocci, 1 (1)

184 pounds: Bernie Truax, 5 (2)

197 pounds: Aaron Brooks, 1 (1)

285 pounds: Greg Kerkvliet, 1 (1)

Team: No. 1
