Breaking Penn State Gets First White Out Commit With Top 100 Linebacker Dj Mcclary

The Penn State football extended the White Out party to Sunday afternoon when they got another win. This time, it was on the recruiting trail when four-star linebacker DJ McClary committed to the Nittany Lions in the afterglow of the big game. Recruiting insider Sean Fitz joins the Blue White Illustrated YouTube channel to discuss the commitment and how McClary fits with the Class of 2025.

LBU gets another highly-rated prospect

The Penn State staff has been busy in New Jersey so far in the Class of 2025. McClary is the third player from the northern part of the state that has committed to the program, though only two remain after the decommitment of Jaelyne Matthews earlier this month.

“I’m here to announce one of the biggest decisions of my life. I’ve finally come to the decision through this long journey of developing relationships with college coaches and stepping on big college campuses. So now I would like to thank all of the coaches that recruited me around the country. I would like to respectfully shut down my recruitment so I can now focus on my academics as well as my athletics in pursuit of being the next great PSU linebacker,” McClary said in a social media statement.

Penn State White Out has an impact

McClary is the 109th-ranked player in the On3 Industry rankings and a top-ten player at his position. Penn State head coach James Franklin talked about the impact of the White Out in recruiting earlier this week.

“This is a huge recruiting weekend for the other 30 sports as well. It’ll be, in some ways, a zoo this weekend. It’ll be an increase of probably 250,000 people in town, 110,000 people in the stadium, another 100,000 whatever tailgating,”

But Franklin, who now has three players in the Class of 2025 with the prospects of getting more in the next few days, didn’t realize the impact of the recruiting when he got to Happy Valley.

“I didn’t have an understanding or an appreciation of the White Out. But now, obviously, not only is it impactful for us, but you think about how many of our guys talk about their recruiting process and how the White had a big impact on that. You think about when we got here, a lot of the good players that were on the team, talking about that five-overtime win with Michigan, it was a ton of guys on our roster that had experienced that.”
