Penn State lost out on its top-ranked commitment earlier this week when four-star offensive lineman Kevin Brown announced his decision to open up his recruitment on Sunday afternoon. Now, just two days later, the Harrisburg prospect has announced that he’ll follow in his father’s footsteps and enroll at West Virginia starting in January.

Listed at 6-foot-5, 280 pounds, Brown took a midweek official visit to West Virginia just a few weeks ago, Oct. 28-30, to meet with head coach Rich Rodriguez and his staff. That was followed by an unofficial visit to Ohio State for the game against Penn State a few days later on Nov. 1.

The Buckeyes were pushing to host Brown again for an official visit whenever it worked with his schedule, but Brown decided against that, committing to the Mountaineers on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday afternoon.

To add insult to injury, Brown’s decision comes just a day after he moved up 28 spots in the most recent Rivals300 update. He’s now the 29th-ranked player in the country, which means if Brown stays that high in the final rankings, which will be released in January following all-star games, it’ll make him a five-star prospect when it’s all said and done. Rivals awards a five-star rating to the top 32 players in the country each year.

“Brown has proven thus far that he has the athletic ability and play strength to not only function in the pass and run games as a blocker, but excel,” wrote Rivals Scout Cody Bellaire at the end of September. “Similar to what we were able to see from him in the camp setting, Brown’s tenacity and ability to finish pops off the screen. He plays mean and lets every defender on the field feel his presence throughout the entirety of the game.”

The Nittany Lions are now down to 13 commitments in the 2026 class, and Brown was the only Top 100 prospect in the class. His high school teammate, running back Messiah Mickens, remains committed to the Nittany Lions but is also believed to be leaning towards switching his commitment to Oklahoma. Mickens hasn’t visited anywhere yet, but the majority of Penn State’s remaining commits have already taken visits elsewhere.
