LAS VEGAS — The middle day of the 2025 Big Ten Media Days event starts this afternoon (for those on the East Coast) or late this morning here at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Six teams, including Penn State, are on today’s docket for podium speeches, roundtable discussions, and a stop by the Big Ten Network set. This is the first year that the conference’s unofficial kickoff to a new season is both three days and located on the West Coast.

“To be candid, this was a logistics thing,” Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti said when asked about moving the event out of Indianapolis, which has been the host site for years following a stint in Chicago. “Some things were going on in Indianapolis. We have brought our media days to Indy, and it’s worked really well for us. It just wasn’t possible this year. Then we had to make some decisions about where to go.

“We’re bringing our men’s and women’s basketball tournaments here in the next couple of years, so it made sense. The city has been great in terms of providing us the resources we need to do this. I think obviously we are a conference that goes coast to coast, so having some presence closer to our West Coast members is not a bad thing. It started with logistics, to be really candid.”
