Welcome back to match day, Penn State fans. The No. 1 Nittany Lions (3-0) are out west on Saturday to take on Wyoming. The Big Ten/Big 12 crossover match concludes a home-and-home non-conference series that started in State College a year ago when head coach Cael Sanderson’s team knocked out an injury-riddled Cowboys team 54-0.

“Penn State has been awesome to work with throughout this whole process,” Wyoming head coach Mark Branch said in a school news release. “It means a lot for our program. Means a lot to our fans. It means a lot for the sport of wrestling. We are fired up about it.

“We’ll be able to field our best team right now, and I think we have a chance to win some matches,” Branch said. “I just want to see that fight from everybody – all ten guys. But if we go out there and wrestle our best, we can pull off some wins and outperform what we did last year.”

We get you read for this year’s match below.

Two questions for the Nittany Lions

Last week, this section focused on 141 and 197 pounds. We will set out sights on those weight classes again today. There continues to be no indication that Aaron Nagao is ready to return from the injury he suffered at the Army Black Knight Invitational. Redshirt freshman Cael Nasdeo is competitive in his place him but is not winning. Could Sanderson give someone else a shot? Pulling Braeden Davis’ redshirt still feels unlikely. But, other options exist.

From there, our attention turns to 197. Connor Mirasola is now in the InterMat and Flo top 10 since Josh Barr has yet to wrestle. Is the latter ready to return to action following a rib injury suffered at the U23 World Championships? We’ll see, but it feels unlikely, which would pit Mirasola against No. 4 Joey Novak in the bout of the evening.
