EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Land Grant Trophy is on the line today when Penn State (3-6) takes on Michigan State (3-6) in a contest that pits two teams on six-game losing streaks against each other inside of Spartan Stadium.

“Obviously, we haven’t had victory, so that’s my responsibility,” Lions interim head coach Terry Smith said back on Wednesday. “So I own that. I do feel like our guys played a much better game and gave much better effort in this third game [of his tenure]. So I feel like we’re moving in the right direction. We’re still not quite there.

“That’s why I use the analogy of the pencil. We’re sharpening the pencil. And, this week, we’re going to come out full blazing. We’re emptying the clip this week. We’re going to Michigan State to win the game, not to let it fall to us.”
