STATE COLLEGE — Game day is here. Penn State football opens its 139th season today when it welcomes Nevada to Beaver Stadium. It’s the first meeting between the Big Ten and Mountain West programs. Saturday’s home team is picked to win its conference in 2025 while the visitors are projected to finish last in theirs.

“For us, we want to play well,” Lions coach James Franklin said this week. “We want to build confidence. We want to do whatever we got to do to get a win. What I would say is that — and this has been the approach for really 12 years and really 15 years, my time as a head coach — we want to try to play a lot of guys. I think we have to build and develop depth by playing a bunch of guys.”

Added second-year Wolf Pack head coach Jeff Choate:

“It’s going to be an awesome opportunity for our guys to go embrace a really cool environment, unveiling the new digs there and to go to one of those Saturday shrines.”
