Kaytron Allen is the new career rushing yards leader at Penn State. The Nittany Lion senior entered Saturday’s matchup with Nebraska needing 3,794 rushing yards. That meant he needed 139 to pass Evan Royster’s all-time mark of 3,932. He did it on a 3-yard carry in the fourth quarter. At the time, the score was 30-10 in favor of the Nittany Lions. Allen is already the program’s all-time leader in rushing attempts.

“Obviously the most important goal is to win the game,” interim head coach Terry Smith said this week when asked about Allen’s race to the record. “But we do know that in our keys to victory every week is for Kaytron and Nick to touch the ball. If they’re touching the ball, that means we’re going to get closer to that goal.

“I want nothing more than for him (Allen) to have the opportunity to break the record, but it’s paramount for us to get him the football for us to have success. They work hand in hand.”

At the time Allen broke the record, he had 22 carries for 140 yards. Classmate Nick Singleton, meanwhile, who is chasing Saquon Barkley’s career rushing and total touchdown marks, had a 4-33-2 line. His pair of scores pulls him even with Barkley in both categories.
