Penn State football is back on the field today.

PASADENA, Calif. — No. 7 Penn State was upset by UCLA 42-37 on Saturday today at the Rose Bowl. The visiting Nittany Lions were a 24.5-point favorite at BetMGM. But they trailed first and never regained the lead as the Bruins were the better team from start to finish.

The Bruins take a 7-0 lead with 10:26 to go in the first quarter. It was a 10-play, 75-yard scoring march. The Lions gave up two third down attempts, including a 3rd and 11 when Iamaleava scrambled for 22. For those wondering, yes: This is UCLA’s first lead of the 2025 season. New offensive coordinator Jerry Neuheisel had it going on that drive, and the Penn State defense was frequently out of position.

Once 11 on 11 work started, TJ Shanahan slotted into Anthony Donkoh’s right guard spot beside Nolan Rucci at tackle. The next rep saw Cooper Cousins at right guard and Anthony Donkoh at right tackle. Regardless of how it shakes out, we might see an offensive line shakeup to some degree this afternoon in terms of which five play the most.

Third-string quarterback Jaxon Smolik is questionable. And, backup running back and guard Cam Wallace and Jven Williams, respectively, are both out.
