Penn State news, notes, and updates for Oct. 15 include Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola on the Matt Rhule-Penn State rumors, headlines of the day, and more. The standout Cornhuskers passer was asked to respond to reports that the Lions will target Rhule to replace James Franklin, who they fired on Sunday, on Tuesday afternoon.

“He ain’t going nowhere,” Raiola told reporters, including one from BWI sister site Huskers Online. “It doesn’t faze him at al. It’s just some people stirring things up … He’s as locked in as ever on this football game. I just had to make sure everybody knew that that’s our head ball coach … and he’s staying right here.”

Rhule, a Penn State alum, is in his third season in Lincoln. He has ties to current Nittany Lions athletic director Pat Kraft, as well.

“I love Penn State,” Rhule told reporters during his weekly media appearance in Lincoln. “I met my wife there. It’s my alma mater, been a fan since I was born. I think I probably had a Penn State shirt on when I was born.”

He later added on Nebraska:

“This place is elite. I want to be a great father, and I want to be a great college football coach. I’m not going to talk about job openings when they come. Maybe it’s been awhile here, but this is what happens when you win. We’ve won at Temple and I dealt with it there. Dealt with it at Baylor. I’m not going to talk about those things ever. I’m not going to talk about my contract here, I’m going to talk about the team.

“I absolutely love it here. I want us to continue to take the steps needed for us to turn this thing into a beast.”

Quote of the day

“Ultimately, for us, at least as players, it’s just an overwhelming sense of guilt. Like, we got our coach fired. We didn’t play well enough. We didn’t do our job good enough, and now he doesn’t have a job anymore.”
