Penn State football faces familiar challenges after latest loss: Notes

Penn State head coach James Franklin stood surrounded by reporters just outside the Ohio Stadium visitors locker room late Saturday night. His Nittany Lions, having dropped a 33-24 decision to No. 5 Ohio State, had produced a highly competitive effort against a Buckeyes program expected by many to earn an easy, steamroll win. An offense stagnant for the prior two games, also losses, put up 394 total yards and 27 first downs, a whopping 361 yards coming via the passing game. Unmistakably improved from games in which the Nittany Lions failed to find much success at all offensively, the result was more than 20 points on the scoreboard for Penn State for the first time since a 24-0 win against Indiana on Oct. 2. The problem?
