Penn State news, notes, and updates for Oct. 8 include Odafe Oweh getting traded by the Ravens, headlines of the day, and more. The now fifth-year NFL linebacker was moved to the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday. He is moving out west in return for safety Alohi Gilma. The teams also exchanged future draft picks.

Oweh had seemingly fallen out of favor in Baltimore. He was a starter in 2024. But, he did not earn first-team reps in Weeks 1, 2, and 5 this year.

“It was worth a shot,” Mike Jones writes for The Athletic in giving the Chagers a B- grade for the trade. “Having a complementary edge rusher opposite Tuipulotu could help bolster the defense, and Oweh comes at an affordable price. Yes, he struggled in Baltimore, but a change of scenery could do him good.”

Oweh has just five tackles (one for loss) and five quarterback hits over five games (two starts) so far this season. For his career, he has 148 tackles, 23 sacks, 68 quarterback hits, and three forced fumbles.

In other news, USA Today calls Penn State the third-biggest fraud of the 2025 season. After starting the year at No. 3 in the outlet’s Coaches Poll, the Lions are now down to No. 22.

“Those thinking in August that James Franklin would produce a national championship and that Drew Allar was a Heisman contender must have been sipping some kind of Kool-Aid,” Blake Toppmeyer writes. “Franklin and Allar have upheld their reputations for wilting in big games, but this loss to woebegone UCLA is a new wrinkle for misery.”

Quote of the day

“What an incredible test we have in front of us this week, a great opponent in Penn State. Very talented football team, very well-coached in all three phases. Their coordinators in all three phases, specifically on offense and defense, are going to find a lot of different ways to stress us. Along with the talent that they have on the field, we’re going into a hostile environment, and this team specifically in 2025 has not experienced an environment like we’ll experience at Penn State. It’s an awesome challenge for this football team, and a challenge that our team’s looking forward to.”
