Penn State basketball game against VCU canceled due to positive COVID-19 tests

Penn State basketball’s game scheduled for Saturday against VCU has been canceled due to positive COVID-19 test results within the PSU program.
The game will not be rescheduled.
“The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the broader community are of the utmost importance,” the release reads.
“Therefore, as part of the protocols established by the Big Ten Conference and Penn State Athletics medical staff, and in consultation with University, local and national officials and guidelines, individuals with a positive test have been put into isolation.”
Penn State’s next game is scheduled for Wednesday, at home against Quinnipiac.
The status of that game will be determined “at a later date,” according to the release.
Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry acknowledged the impact the virus could have, speaking to the media back in August.

“Obviously with the times that we’re in, things are constantly changing. And I think being able to have last season really kind of prepared everybody for what possibilities there may be,” Penn State’s head coach said. “And things could change really quickly. You never know, but you have to be prepared for everything.
“We have a great training staff that is really going to lead us in terms of what we need to do as a program, the kind of protocols that we’re going to follow. They’re going to push us in the right direction. And our administration as well. We want to keep everybody safe. Those are conversations that we want to continue to have. We want to continue to educate our team about what’s going on in the world, what’s going on in the county, what’s going on in this community.”
Penn State currently sits at 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the Big Ten following a loss to Michigan State last Saturday.
