The Penn State men’s basketball program continued its offseason roster reconstruction Wednesday evening with a new addition. Announcing his decision via social media channels, 6-foot-5 guard Reggie Grodin from Boston’s Newman School, has pledged to begin his college career with the Nittany Lions.

Grodin does not have a rating by any of the recruiting services. From Larchmont, N.Y., he’s played his AAU ball with N.Y. Lightning.

Earning offers from Fordham and George Washington during the recruiting process, Grodin initially committed to play for the Rams in November 2024. But, upon the dismissal of head coach Keith Urgo from the program, Grodin re-opened his recruitment late last month.

With the decommitment, Newman School posted Grodin’s stat line in a post on X touting his credentials from a highly successful season. It wrote: “68% from 2, 41% from 3, 3.1 ast/to ratio and #1 EFF for the #2 ranked team in country and New England Champs.” Newman finished as the 2025 NEPSAC AAA winners.

Other programs reportedly showing interest in Grodin through the process included George Washington, Colgate, Elon, Cornell, and Stony Brook.

Scouting Reggie Grodin

From Zagsblog upon his initial commitment:

“Grodin — the 6-foot-5 guard out the The Newman School in Boston — was a sparkplug off the bench for NH Lightning’s Nike EYBL AAU program this summer. Every time his squad needed a big offensive rebound, defensive stop or shot to fall, Grodin was there to make the play. ‘Reggie was an important piece to the team,’ four-star forward and JMU commit Preston Fowler said. ‘He didn’t need to score to impact the game at all. He impacted on the defensive end and rebounding. He’s a good teammate who never complains even when the ball isn’t going his way. And he’s a guy who gave us great energy off the bench and we could always depend him to help the team.'”
