Penn State extends new Class of 2028 offer to fast-riser

Head coach Mike Rhoades and the Penn State men’s basketball program are getting in early on a fast-rising Class of 2028 prospect. Reported via his social media channels, Bullis School wing Xavier Skipworth has earned an offer from the Nittany Lions.

The offer joins a list of top-tier programs to pursue Skipworth including Marquette, Purdue, Syracuse, Maryland, and Georgetown within the past month and a half. Listed at 6-foot-5, Skipworth made On3 reporter Jamie Shaw’s Basketball Class of 2028 watch list in late-April. Additionally ESPN already has Skipworth ranked at No. 14 in the Class of 2028 for its way too early rankings.

Penn State makes new push for 2027 targets

Skipworth’s offer this weekend comes on the heels of a wave of new offers extended to Class of 2027 prospects last weekend. The first last weekend went to 6-foot-1 point guard Antonio Pemberton. The Brewster Academy (Lawrence, Mass.) is a four-star in the On3 Industry Ranking and is the higest ranked out of Penn State’s new Class of 2027 offers. Joshua Tyson, from Lakota West (Cincinnati, Ohio) also earned a Penn State offer in addition to contact from Ohio State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati and Butler, according to Prep U

Marquis Newson, a 6-foot-5 member of Philadelphia’s Team Final, also reported an offer from Penn State in addition to St. Joe’s, as well as early interest from Marquette, UAB, VCU, LaSalle, Cornell, and Pepperdine, among others. 

Davon Maloney, a 6-foot-6 small forward from Newman School in Boston, Mass. and a former teammate of Reggie Grodin, picked up an offer, as did 6-foot-10 center Charles Pur out of the Burlington School (Burlington, N.C.).

Trey Thompson, ranked No. 91 overall in the Class of 2026, PF Quinn Costello, and SF Julius Avent also recently earned offers in the Class of 2026. Trent Perry also joined 6-foot-2 combo guard Markevion Jones, who reported Penn State as his first D1 offer on June 8, among the guards to earn recent offers.
