How the Penn State offense can attack West Virginia

Penn State football fans want to know what to expect when West Virginia comes to Happy Valley for the first time in the 21st century. Today, on the Keystone Kickoff Show, we start discussing the Mountaineers’ defense in the show’s final quarter. Host Jim Galanti and I also review what Messiah Mickens’ commitment means for the Class of 2026 and how Ethan Grunkemeyer performed in his first college game.

Check all that out, and hear more about the Penn State defense and receiver positions during the four-quarters of the show. To see the exclusive video broadcast of the state-wide sports show, subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube channel

Penn State lands talented player in Mickens

With so much time between his commitment and signing day, how should fans feel about this news? T-Frank explains the relationship between Mickens and Penn State based on what he learned from Blue White Illustrated’s reporting.

Despite his age, Mickens earned over 20 scholarship offers from national programs before heading into his sophomore season. The Nittany Lion’s hometown angle earned his commitment over national powers like Alabama, Ohio State, and more. Can he turn the 2026 class into a top-five unit? T-Frank pours some cold water on the early excitement.

Penn State vs. West Virginia preview

After discussing Ethan Grunkemeyer’s performance in the season-opening game, which you can find a full breakdown of here, we move on to discuss the season-opening game between Penn State and West Virginia. Check out part of that breakdown here.

Martin is the sole returning defensive lineman, with both players moving on this offseason. He’s a high-quality run defender and, at 6-5, 290 pounds, is a disruptor. He plays with great strength and length but has the quickness and technique to beat tackles across their face and get into the B gap on run plays. If Penn State right tackle Caedan Wallace has truly taken a step this fall, we’ll find out quickly in this matchup. However, according to WBOY, Martin hasn’t been healthy this preseason.

“Defensive end Sean Martin – who recorded the most sacks of any WVU returning defender – is in the final stages of rehabbing an injury before he practices full-go this week.”

You’ll also get an early preview of West Virginia’s coverage schemes and players on the show. How should Penn State attack the Mountaineer’s defense? We close the show out with key matchups that will help decide the game for the Penn State offense.
