Penn State wide receiver Norval Black is no longer on the Nittany Lions’ official roster.

Black, who arrived with the Nittany Lions in the Class of 2020 after a stint at Lackawanna College, did not appear in any games for Penn State over the last two seasons.

Originally from Germantown, Maryland, Black has two seasons of eligibility remaining for use at his next destination.

A look at Penn State’s WR room

The picture at wide receiver is likely to look much different next season, with Jahan Dotson primed to make the jump to the NFL.

The departure of Black thins out the group of wideouts looking to break into the rotation in 2022.

Starters Parker Washington and KeAndre Lambert-Smith are set to return for their third season.

Beyond that, it seems likely that James Franklin and wide receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield will look to younger players like Malick Meiga, Jaden Dottin, Harrison Wallace and Liam Clifford as they look to fill out the rotation at the position next season.

It will be interesting to see if Penn State elects to look for more veteran options in the transfer portal, or if one of the true freshmen the Nittany Lions are set to bring in at wideout in the 2022 class can step up and play early.

Lions QB enters portal

Penn State Nittany Lions football quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson has entered the transfer portal.

Roberson announced the news on his personal Twitter account on Monday morning.

“Thank you Penn State University for the countless, unforgettable memories, and life long relationships that was built these past 3 years,” Roberson wrote. “Thank you Coach Franklin and staff for believing and taking a chance on me. After much thought and consideration, my family and I have decided that it is best that I enter my name in the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility remaining.”

Roberson appeared in four games in 2021 and six games throughout his three-year Penn State career.

His most extended opportunity came in Week Six against Iowa following an injury to starter Sean Clifford.

Roberson struggled as the Nittany Lions allowed a first-half lead to slip through their fingers in a difficult Kinnick Stadium environment.

He completed seven of his 21 pass attempts for 34 yards and two interceptions in that game, also rushing 10 times for 27 yards.

Roberson is a former four-star prospect, and the No. 18 QB in the Class of 2019.

“I got a ton of respect for Ta’Quan Roberson,” Penn State head coach James Franklin said earlier this season. “He’s done all the things right since he’s been here, and two very different situations that we’re talking about as well. Got a ton of respect for Ta’Quan.”
