The Penn State Nittany Lions are on an unprecedented five-game losing streak and barrelling towards a sixth. The team lost to number-one-ranked Ohio State on Saturday, 38-14, and now faces number-two ranked Indiana this coming weekend. Penn State Interim head coach Terry Smith spoke with the media on Monday to discuss the team’s current state and what he hopes to accomplish this week to turn things around. Hear his complete comments on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel, or embedded below in this article.

The Nittany Lions are 3-5 and need to win three out of the next four games to be bowl eligible for this offseason.

Penn State head coach Terry Smith press conference

Once again, the Penn State offense failed to muster a threatening passing attack. Smith addressed the issues with targeting players down the field, which also includes the team’s struggles to get young receivers like Koby Howard and Tyseer Denmark involved.

“I’m talking with the offensive staff. We’re going to push the ball a little bit further down the field. I guess the stat running around from the game is that we had 102 yac yards from the game and 145 or so total, which means the ball is still going horizontally. We have to develop the play action; we have to develop the intermediate game,” Smith said.

“I have to get it fixed. We will throw the ball down the field this week.”

The Penn State offense mustered just 200 yards in the loss.
