Penn State news, notes, and updates for May 22 include another win for the Lions’ lacrosse team plus a preferred walk-on shining in an all-star game and much more

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with lacrosse. The Lions knocked off Army 10-9 on Sunday to advance to the NCAA semifinals. TJ Malone scored four times and Jack Fracyon tallied 11 saves to lead the Lions to a victory. They will now face Duke on May 27 at Noon. ESPN2 will televise the contest.

“We need our best players Jack Fracyon, TJ Malone,” PSU coach Jeff Tambroni said, per the Daily Collegian, “we need them to make big time plays if we’re expecting to move on.”

In other news, Penn State walk-on commit Finn Furmanek was the star of the  Pennsylvania Football Coaches Association East-West Large School All-Star game over the weekend. He completed 8 of 13 passes for 109 yards and rushed 10 times for 71 yards in the West team’s 24-16 win. Furmanek, who is from State College, will be a tight end at Penn State.

“This is probably the last time I threw a pass in a game, and it’s definitely different because I played quarterback my whole life,” Furmanek told Eastern PA Football. “I’m excited for the challenge. I have to beef up a little bit to play tight end, and I can use what I experienced at quarterback. It will be almost like I’ll be playing a different game. I think I had seven receptions this year.”
