Offensive lineman Kevin Brown was one of the first prospects to commit to Penn State’s 2026 class. However, like so many others who planned to play for head coach James Franklin and his staff, that’s no longer the case.

On Sunday afternoon, Brown officially backed away from his commitment to the Nittany Lions. Not only is the Harrisburg, Pa., native a four-star player and one of the best offensive linemen in the country, but he was also Penn State’s top-ranked player in the 2026 class. Rivals had him ranked No. 57 nationally, while the Industry Rankings place him at No. 70.

Sunday Situation: Can Penn State turn losing streak into winning streak?

“Kevin Brown (No. 56) had an incredible offseason with multiple impressive camp performances,” wrote Rivals Scout Cody Bellaire at the end of September. “But the biggest concern with Brown has been on Friday nights, with limited snaps being taken along the offensive line. He had primarily been lined up as an H-back for Harrisburg (Pa.) High, but as a senior, he has been working at right tackle, left tackle, tight end and as an H-back.

“Brown has proven thus far that he has the athletic ability and play strength to not only function in the pass and run games as a blocker, but excel. Similar to what we were able to see from him in the camp setting, Brown’s tenacity and ability to finish pops off the screen. He plays mean and lets every defender on the field feel his presence throughout the entirety of the game.”

The 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive lineman totaled two dozen scholarship offers throughout his recruitment. In recent weeks, he’s shifted his focus to two schools following an official visit to West Virginia the weekend of Oct. 28-30. Ohio State also hosted him for an unofficial visit a few days later. It’s believed that the Mountaineers are the current favorite.

The Nittany Lions are now down to 13 commitments in the 2026 class. Brown was the only Top 100 prospect in the class.
