Penn State news, notes, and updates for Jan. 6 include postseason honors for two Nittany Lions, plus a recruiting nugget and more.

It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a recruiting update. Stafford, Va., Mountain View four-star Class of 2024 linebacker Kris Jones made his first group of finalists on Thursday. The nation’s No. 112 junior and No. 13 player at his position, according to the On3 Consensus player rankings, reduced his list of nearly 30 programs to 12. Penn State made the cut, along with Florida, Georgia, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

Jones has visited the Hokies and Lions four times a piece so far, which is more than any other program. He was last in State College in October. It is likely he will make unofficial visits this winter before taking official during the spring and summer window before ultimately making a decision.

In other news, two Nittany Lions have been recognized for their performances in the Rose Bowl.

Running back Nicholas Singleton made the College Football News freshman All-Bowl team after carrying seven times for 120 yards and two touchdowns, which of course, included an 87-yard scoring scamper.

Penn State safety Ji’Ayir Brown, meanwhile, made the Associated Press All-Bowl team. The senior went out on a high note. He made a team- and game-high eight tackles, including 1.5 sacks, and secured an interception. He also earned Rose Bowl defensive MVP honors.

Quote of the day

“It’s such an unbelievable event. Hats off to Coach Chambers, I think it was his idea to start this, of him getting the chance to bring his team back to Philly,” Shrewsberry said. “He was recruiting Philly at a high level and was getting a bunch of guys there and it gives them a chance to come home.”
