Penn State returns to the field next Saturday when it travels to Michigan for its sixth game of the season. We now know when that contest will start at the ‘Big House’ in Ann Arbor.

The Big Ten Conference and both schools announced on Monday that kickoff is set for Noon on FOX. That means it will be the network’s highlight game of the week and feature its top broadcasting crew of Gus Johnson, Joel Klatt, and Jenny Taft. It marks the second time this season that the Lions will be on the airwaves of the Big Ten’s biggest television partner. The same crew called Penn State’s Week 1 win over Purdue, which was in primetime.

Penn State moved into the top-10 for the first time this season following a sluggish 17-7 win over Northwestern. It is now in its lone bye week of the season.

“It is a bye week, not an off-week, a bye week and we must get better this week,” head coach James Fraklin said back on Saturday. “We have a tough stretch coming up with Michigan. We must get in that facility. We’ll practice Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, players will have the weekend off and the coaches will go recruit on the weekend.

“We’ll get a head start not only on our next opponent, but the next couple opponents. We also need to live in the training room and get as healthy as we possibly can.”

More Penn State-Michigan notes

Michigan holds a 15-10 all-time series lead over the Lions. The Wolverines won their last meeting with Penn State 21-17 in State College last year. PSU, however, won in its last trip to Ann Arbor. That game at Michigan Stadium featured no fans, though, because of the coronavirus pandemic. Penn State won 27-17.

In the James Franklin era, the Lions are 3-5 against Jim Harbaugh’s side. Michigan, like Penn State, is 5-0. The Wolverines are No. 4 in the most recent Associated Press top-25. They face Indiana this weekend.

“We’re 5-0 now,” Harbaugh said last week. “You can’t get to 6-0 unless you’re 5-0. It’s kind of cool, you know?  You look at that and go, ‘we haven’t won here since 2005. The 5th game of the year last year we went to Wisconsin, and we hadn’t won at Wisconsin since (2003). So, we keep track of those things.”
