Penn State news, notes, and updates for March 2 include an NFL Combine nugget plus Iron Lions of the Week picks and much more.
It’s time to dive into Thursday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.
Penn State tweets of the day
We start with the NFL Combine. Former Penn State defensive tackle PJ Mustipher will be the first Nittany Lion on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. He and the rest of the invited defensive linemen will begin drill work at 3 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
On Wednesday, Mustipher participated in a media session. At it, he pushed for Lions coach James Franklin to hire former graduate assistant and current Penn State analyst Deion Barnes as the program’s next defensive line coach after John Scott Jr., departed for the NFL back on Monday.
“I want Coach Franklin to hire him,” Mustipher said. “I think he should because he’s put in a lot of work in our defensive line.”

In other news, the Lions’ strength staff have picked their Iron Lions of the Week. The latest honors went to defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton, linebacker Kobe King, and receiver Liam Clifford. Dennis-Sutton chatted with BWI in February about his first season as a Nittany Lion and what he is focused on in year two.
“So many things,” Dennis-Sutton said. “Obviously, I’m a young player and I missed out on one of my years because of COVID and things like that in high school. So, there are just a lot of things. Learning the game, obviously becoming bigger, faster, stronger, all those things. They definitely play a big role.”
“Coming out of my stance, that was a big thing I had this past season. Me being a taller guy, I would naturally start to rise up coming out of my stance. So, just coming out of the chute every day, striking the bag. If there was one thing, I’d say that, but just all around, I have to work on everything.”

Quote of the day
“I am excited about it. This is something I have dreamed about. I grew up watching people do this and now I am blessed to get the opportunity. I won’t have hats on the table, but when I make my decision, it will be a shirt reveal. That is how everyone will find out if I am going to Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State or Rutgers.”
