Penn State recruiting target narrows list to two ahead of trip to State College: Newsstand

A top Penn State recruiting target has narrowed his list to two schools ahead of his official visit to see the Nittany Lions. Dodge Center, Minn., Triton tight end Pierce Petersohn is down to Penn State and Minnesota. That headlines today’s newsstand.
Petersohn is ranked as a four-star linebacker by On3, which also calls him the No. 201 player in the country. However, the Nittany Lions like the 6-foot-5, 190-pound prospect on the other side of the ball. The Gophers hosted him for an official visit earlier this month. Penn State will have him on campus this weekend. Petersohn is coming off a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash at the Minnesota state track meet with a time of 48.16 seconds.
“He’s a do-it-all athlete for his high school,” On3 Scouting Director Charles Powe previously told On3. “He plays quarterback and plays safety. I think he probably projects best as a safety or linebacker at the next level, but I can see why Penn State has interest in him as a tight end. We have a lot to learn about Petersohn still, but he’s arguably the best multi-sport athlete in this class when I compare him to all the other linebackers, which is what we ranked him as.
“He’s an electric basketball player. I’m not exactly sure what he averaged this year, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it was over 30 [points per game]. He can put his head on the rim. He also has a 6’10” high jump and you can really see that athleticism when watching his football film.”

“It was always a dream of mine, so I’m really exited to get out there and compete with some of the best quarterbacks in the country and prove myself.
