Penn State offense starts slow but comes out hot in the second half

Despite moving the ball in the second quarter, Penn State went into halftime with a 17-10 lead. Minnesota scored a quick touchdown before the half and then got the ball to start the third quarter.

Unfortunately for the gophers, that was as close as it would get. Penn State scored 21 points in the third quarter and raced out to a 38-10 lead to start the final frame.

The offensive resurgence was led by quarterback Sean Clifford, who played the game of his life in front of 109 thousand fans. The senior quarterback rallied from an ugly interception in the first quarter to throw for 295 yards and four touchdowns, completing 74% of his passes.

Offensive coordinator Mike Yurich finally cracked the code for using tight ends. As a result, the offense went to the position early and often. Theo Johnson and Tyler Warren caught 25-plus-yard touchdown passes and were a nightmare all night in the middle of the field.
