Penn State transfer tracker: From Cristian Driver to Smith Vilbert (and everyone in between), how are former Lions doing elsewhere?

Beau Pribula and Harrison Wallace III are stealing the headlines when it comes to how former Penn State players who left the program via the transfer portal are doing three weeks into the college football season. But, they are hardly the only ones shining so far. Here’s our latest look at how the onetime Lions are doing heading into Week 4.

Former Penn State players suiting up elsewhere on offense

WR Cristian Driver, Minnesota: Driver has yet to take a snap for the Golden Gophers over the first three weeks of play. It appears that he is quite far down the depth chart in his second year with the program.

RB London Montgomery, East Carolina: Montgomery is the leading rusher for the Pirates so far. He has carried a team-high 30 teams for 108 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 20 yards.

WR Malik McClain, Arizona State: McClain has just three catches for 13 yards so far this season. He has started in all three games, though, and has 192 snaps so far, per PFF, which is the second most for pass catchers on the team.

WR Malick Meiga, Coastal Carolina: Meiga caught just seven passes for 117 yards last year. He projects to have a big speical teams role and a minimal one on offense again in 2025.

QB Michael Johnson Jr., Akron: Johnson is not the Zips starter. He is a perfect 2 for 2 so far this season for just eight yards. He has also carried 13 times for 15 yards.

QB Christian Veilleux, Georgia State: Veilleux is not the team’s starter under center. He completed just 4 passes for 11 yards and has an interception. He is now behind TJ Finley, who is the Panthers’ new first-teamer under center.

RB Caziah Holmes, Florida State: Holmes is a depth piece for the Seminoles. On the year, he has five carries for nine yards and a touchdown.

QB Ta’quan Roberson, Buffalo: Roberson is 50 of 88 (62.5 percent) for 558 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions over the first three weeks. He has also rushed 28 times for 148 yards and two scores. He was just named the MAC’s offensive player of the week after throwing for 318 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulls’ 31-28 win over Kent State.

OL Ibrahim Traore, Toledo: Traore is playing left and right tackle for the Rockets. He is not the team’s starter at either position. But, he is playing quite a bit and also contributing on special teams. Traore is Toledo’s fourth-best run blocker so far, per PFF.

WR Carmelo Taylor, Lackawanna College: Taylor has seven receptions for 100 yards and two touchdowns so far for the Falcons.

Jerry Cross, TE, Memphis: Cross has yet to record a catch this season. He has only played nine snaps on offense. He’s also logged 18 on special teams, per PFF.

Omari Evans, WR, Washington: Evans continues to battle through what the program is calling a soft tissue injury. He has yet to make his season debut for the Huskies.

Tyler Johnson, WR,East Carolina: Johnson plays some on offense but not a lot for the Pirates. He has yet to record a catch this season.

Keyvone Lee, RB, UNLV: Lee is a backup for the Runnin’ Rebels. Through three games, he has 13 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown as the team’s RB3.

Chase Meyer, K, Cal: Described as the team’s short field goal kicker and extra point specialist, Meyer is 3 for 3 on the year with each make coming inside of 50 yards.

JB Nelson, OL, Kansas State: Nelson has started two of the Wildcats’ first three games at right guard. He has totaled 99 snaps so far. It appears that he will continue to be part of a rotation.

Beau Pribula, QB, Missouri: Pribula is a star for the Tigers. After winning a battle with  Sam Horn by default after the latter suffered a long-term injury, Pribula is now 68 of 89 (76.4 percent) for 791 yards. He has a 7-to-1 touchdowns-to-interceptions ratio through the air. And, he’s added 114 rushing yards and three touchdowns, as well.

Harrison Wallace III, WR, Ole Miss: Wallace has two 100-plus yard games in three contests so far for the Rebels. To date, he’s caught a team-high 15 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns.

Former Nittany Lions lining up elsewhere on defense

DL Davon Townley, Missouri State: Townley has five pass tackles so far (0.5 for loss) and two pass breakups so far this season.

DL Jordan van den Berg, Georgia Tech: van den Berg has started all three games for the Yellow Jackets this year at defensive tackle. He has seven tackles (two for loss) so far this year and also a quarterback hurry and blocked kick.

P Alex Bacchetta, Rice: Bacchetta has punted 13 times for an average of 43.5 yards. His long on the season to date is 56. And, he has two 50-plus yard boots, and two punts have been downed inside of the opponent’s 20-yard line.


DL Rodney McGraw, Western Michigan: McGraw is not a starter for the Broncos. But, he does play. Through three games, he’s made five tackles and has 2.5 sacks. He also has a pass breakup.

DL Ken Talley, Arkansas: Talley has played in just two of the Razorbacks’ games so far. He has three tackles on the year.

DT Cole Brevard, Texas: Brevard did not win a starting job with the Longhorns. But, he is averaging over 20 snaps a game. So far, he has four tackles on the season.

DL Jamari Buddin, Grand Valley State: Buddin has 12 stops (four for loss) and a sack in addition to two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.

Mehki Flowers, S, Akron: Flowers is playing mostly on special teams. He has one tackle on the year.

Cam Miller, CB, Rutgers: Miller is starting for the Scarlet Knights. He has eight tackles and a pass breakup over the first three weeks.

Tyrece Mills, S, UCONN: After coming off the bench in week one, Mills has started the last two games at free safety for the Huskies. He’s made 12 tackles (two for loss) and also has a sack, three pass breakups, and a fumble recovery.

Jon Mitchell, CB, Georgia Tech: Mitchell is a backup defender for the Yellow Jackets. He’s made three tackles over three weeks on 27 snaps.

Joseph Mupoyi, DL, North Carolina: Mupoyi is a backup defender for the Tar Heels. Over 56 snaps, he’s made one tackle.

Ta’Mere Robinson, LB, USC: Robinson has come off the bench to take part in 27 snaps over the first three games of his time with the Trojans. He’s made five tackles (one for loss) so far.

Smith Vilbert, DE, North Carolina: Vilbert has started the last two games for the Tar Heels after coming off the bench in the opener. He’s made three tackles so far.
