Penn State news, notes, and updates for Feb. 1 focus on a potential signing day splash plus an honor for Roman Bravo-Young and more.

It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with an honor for multi-time national champion Roman Bravo-Young. The Penn State 133-pounder was named the Big Ten’s co-wrestler of the week after beating former teammate and friend Brody Teske by fall in last Friday’s 23-14 win over Iowa. The pin, which came late in the third period, helped the Lions bounce back after the Hawkeyes’ Spencer Lee scored five team points by beating 125-pound foe Marco Vespa by technical fall.

“[Bravo-Young] wrestled Teske for two years, I think he was in our room,” Lions coach Cael Sanderson said, according to The Daily Collegian. “They’re very familiar with one another.”

“The team score, we fell behind a little bit there. Roman’s pin helped a lot. Obviously, that was a big deal.”

‘RBY’ also beat Michigan State’s Rayvon Foley by fall two Sundays ago, which factored into the conference’s decision to honor him.

Bravo-Young shared the honor with Ohio State’s Jesse Mendez.

In other news, top Penn State Class of 2023 target and four-star Dundalk, Md., offensive lineman Chimdey Onoh makes his college choice today. The On300 recruit picks between the Lions, Ole Miss, Michigan State, and Rutgers at 2 p.m. ET Wednesday.

Blue-White Illustrated is expecting to have a live video stream of the ceremony. But, Onoh will also broadcast the announcement on his personal Instagram page, which can be accessed by clicking here.

Quote of the day

“No one expects us to win. We’re playing with house money. With the guys that we have… we’re not going to go into a game expecting not to win. We’re playing the No. 1 team on the road. That’s gonna be a really tough game, a really tough environment. We’re gonna have to play really, really well.

“But at the same time, we love the guys in our locker room. We love what we’re going into it with. We love the coaching staff that we have. And we need to acknowledge that we need to play really, really well. They’re a really good team, well-coached, and it’s hard to win there. But at the same time, we need to keep that same confidence in ourselves and the same confidence that we played with yesterday and bring that momentum going forward.”
