Penn State wrestling reviews recent success

Penn State wrestling’s contingency at the NWCA event went undefeated while the rest of the team took home five championships at the Black Knight open. So what did Sanderson learn about his wrestlers during the two events? As always, he was focused on growth and improvement, not the results of the matches early in the season.

With both of Penn State’s 157-pound wrestlers making the championship and freshman Levi Haines defeating Terrell Barraclough 2-1 in the bout, does that change things at that weight? Sanderson explains his thinking with both the veteran and the freshman battling for that position. Next, he discusses the thinking behind getting Haines more time while still preserving his redshirt.

Sanderson discusses the upcoming showdowns for Penn State wrestling with Rider and Lehigh on the road this weekend. What does he want to see out of young wrestlers on the road in a hostile environment? Sanderson discusses the progress he’s looking for from all his wrestlers, not just the young faces on the roster.

The Nittany Lions travel to New Jersey on Friday night at 7:30 to face Rider before returning in-state to see rival Lehigh at 2 pm on Sunday. Follow Blue White Illustrated and reporter Greg Pickel to keep up-to-date on everything Penn State wrestling.
