Penn State wrestling has picked up its second verbal commitment in the Class of 2025. State College Area standout and two-time PIAA state tournament place winner Asher Cunningham picked the Lions on Tuesday night. It’s unclear what other programs he considered. But, the list is likely short, considering his father, Casey, is the longtime head assistant coach under Cael Sanderson at Penn State.

I am excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at Penn State University!” Asher Cunningham wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way.

Asher Cunningham has wrestled a pair of high school seasons so far. As a freshman, he competed in the 120-pound weight class and won his first district and regional titles. Then, he finished eighth at states to end his first high school slate at 35-9. This past school year, the Little Lion was 28-7 and repeated his district and regional first-place finishes before wrestling his way to fourth at the state tournament in Hershey.

MatScouts ranks Asher Cunningham as the No. 61 overall recruit in the Class of 2025, according to its big board. FloWrestling does not yet have him in its Class of 2025 rankings or 145-pound high school rankings.

Cunningham joins fellow Pa., native Dalton Perry in the Lions’ Class of 2025. Perry is Flo’s No. 4 Class of 2025 wrestler in Pennsylvania and its seventh-ranked 132-pounder nationally. MatScots, meanwhile, calls him the No. 26 overall recruit in the Class of 2025.
