Penn State wrestling is officially seven days away from its first match week of the season. The No. 1 Nittany Lions welcome Oklahoma to the Bryce Jordan Center on Nov. 14 for their first match of the season. Before it, there is plenty happening around the program to catch up on.

If you missed it on Sunday, BWI had a full recap of the three former Lions who won their debuts at new schools. You can read that here. Also on Sunday, three Penn State commits competed at the Clarion Open. Class of 2027 commit Landon Sidun, a junior at Norwin, Pa., ended up finishing off the podium. He beat fellow Class of 2027 recruit Grey Burnett 4-1 in his opening round bout at 125 pounds 4-1 before beating his next opponent by technical fall, 19-1. From there, he took on expected Ohio State starter and redshirt junior Brendan McCrone, who won by decision, 7-6, in a quarterfinal bout that was decided by a stalling call on Sidun with 1:09 to wrestle. From there, the future Nittany Lion fell into the consolation bracket. He won his first match there by technical fall before losing to Burnett in the consolation semifinals. Burnett went on to finish sixth.

At 141 pounds, Penn State Class of 2026 commit Sam Herring from Bishop McCort went 4-2. His tournament ultimately ended in the semifinals. Future classmate Jayden James of New Jersey went 5-1 with all five victories coming in the consolation bracket following a Round 1 exit from the championship bracket. All of his triumphs came by bonus points.

Bill Farrell entries update

Penn State junior Tyler Kasak is no longer the only Nittany Lion registered for the Bill Farrell Open. According to Flo, newcomer Masanosuke Ono is now registered in the 57-kilogram weight class. The Japanese world champ is likely going to redshirt during his first season in State College. He projects to wrestle at either 133 or 141 pounds down the road.

Besides Kasak, who is in at 70 kilograms, the aforementioned Herring is also in at 61 kilograms. And, former Nittany Lion Beau Bartlett is registered at 65 kilograms.

Assuming Ono and Kasak redshirt, that means the Lions’ lineup should feature Marcus Blaze at 133, Braeden Davis at 141, and PJ Duke at 157. But, there is still plenty of time for Cael Sanderson and co., to make those decisions. After all, the season may be less than two weeks away, but the time to lock in the postseason lineup is far away.
