Penn State wrestling picks up commitment from Class of 2027 two-time NY state champ Will Soto

Penn State wrestling is adding to its Class of 2027. Two-time New York 108-pound state champ Will Soto announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions on Monday morning. He projects as a career 125-pounder and starts his junior season as Flo’s fourth-best high school lightweight.

“I am extremely blessed and excited to announce my commitment to Penn State University to continue my academic and athletic career,” Soto wrote on Instagram.

“I want to thank my family for their endless love and support, my coaches and teammates for pushing me to be my best both on and off the mat, and allowing me to turn my dreams into a reality. I’m excited for the next Chapter. We are!”

The new Nittany Lion is a Pan Am Games gold medalist. He is also a Fargo champ. MatScouts has him at No. 125 on its 2027 big board. Flo has him as the No. 100 recruit in the Class of 2027. He is part of the KD Training Center in the Empire State, which has sent numerous graduates to State College. The list includes current starters PJ Duke and Rocco Welsh, and Class of 2026 signee Jayden James.

Soto is joined in the Penn State Class of 2027 by Pa. natives Landon Sidun and James Whitbread, plus fellow New Yorker Gavin Mangano, who is also a KD Training Center competitor.

“I am excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Penn State University! I feel there is no better place for me to continue my progress and success than at Penn State with there amazing coaching staff,” Mangano wrote in announcing his own committment to the Lions earlier this year.

“Thank you to all the coaches that have reached out to me throughout this process. I would also like to thank Coach KD and Uncle Tony for their support throughout my journey. As well as my high school coaches. Special thanks to my family for being by my side throughout this process.”

Sidun projects to compete at 125, as well, although he may eventually grow into the 133-pound weight class. Mangano projects to start at 149 pounds. And, Whitbread looks like he will start at 197 pounds.
